SAF suspends physical training after two deaths in two days

SINGAPORE: In an unprecedented move, the Defence Ministry declared a three-day halt to all physical and endurance training activities in the army, navy and air force.

The ‘time-out’ from 12-14 June follows the death of two servicemen in training within two days.

20-year-old Officer Cadet (OCT) Clifton Lam Jia Hao, a pilot trainee with the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), died on Wednesday, one-and-a-half hours after he collapsed while he was undergoing jungle orientation training in Brunei.

A day earlier, 20-year-old army recruit Andrew Cheah Wei Siong died after he fainted while taking part in a two-kilometre walk training activity on Pulau Tekong.

Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said the suspension will allow the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to review and re-focus on training activities to ensure that proper procedures are in place before training resumes.

“While the SAF needs to carry out realistic training, this will be done without compromise to safety,” added Mr Teo.

The minister also extended his condolences to the families of Mr Cheah and OCT Lam. “I am saddened by the loss of two young and precious sons of Singapore,” Mr Teo said in a statement. - CNA/ir

Aaron James Ramsey (born 26 December 1990 in Caerphilly)[1] is a Welsh footballer, currently playing for Arsenal after signing from Cardiff City.

Club career

Cardiff City

After impressing in an Urdd tournament as a youngster he signed for Cardiff City, who beat off competition from Newcastle United, as a schoolboy at the age of eight working his way through the club’s youth system eventually making his Cardiff City debut in the last home game of the 2006-07 Championship season, coming on to replace Paul Parry in the final minute of the 1-0 defeat to Hull City on 28 April 2007. In doing so, Ramsey became the youngest player to ever play for Cardiff City, aged just 16 years and 124 days,[2] beating the previous record holder John Toshack.

In June 2007, Cardiff City turned down a bid of over £1m for Ramsey from a London-based Premier League club.[3] The club has not been named, but it is widely believed that they have continued to watch Ramsey at every available opportunity during the 2007-08 season. Cardiff also turned down a £1m offer, although the deal was to start with a payment of £200,000 and rise depending on his future achievements, from Everton and their Merseyside rivals Liverpool are also watching the youngster.

He made his first league appearance of the 2007/08 season on 6 October when he came on as a late substitute for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the 2-1 home win over Burnley. Ramsey signed his first professional contract in December 2007.[4] On 5 January 2008, Ramsey made his first full professional start for Cardiff in the FA Cup against non-league side Chasetown replacing the suspended Stephen McPhail. An impressive performance from Ramsey saw him head in the second Cardiff goal as they went on to win 3-1.[5] Due to his performance against Chasetown Ramsey was nominated for the Player Of The Round award, eventually losing out to Coventry’s Michael Mifsud.[6] He went on to make his first career league start three weeks later in a 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers and began to establish himself in the first team making several more starts in the Cardiff side. He made a total of 22 appearances during the season, his first full season of professional football, and played in five of the club’s six FA Cup matches, including the final, en route to the final.

Following Ramsey’s impressive performance in the 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Middlesbrough it was revealed that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had talked to Cardiff boss Dave Jones to enquire about Ramsey, joining Arsenal, Newcastle United and Everton in following his progress.[7] Cardiff Chairman Peter Ridsdale told the BBC that Arsenal’s bid of £5 million up front had been accepted. Arsenal’s bid did not include a loan clause that would allow Ramsey to stay at Cardiff for another season.[8]

Arsenal

On 10 June 2008 Ramsey signed a three-year deal at Arsenal after being flown out to Switzerland for face-to-face talks with boss Arsene Wenger at Euro 2008.

Ramsey’s preference for north London was confirmed by Cardiff this morning.

‘Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey’s preferred destination this summer is at the Emirates Stadium with Arsenal,’ a statement on www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk read. ‘We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron’s move being completed. ‘The move, unlike other options, however, does not include a loan-back period at Ninian Park for the 2008-09 season.’ After making his Bluebirds debut as a substitute against Hull in April 2007, Ramsey made 21 appearances last season, scoring twice.

Hopefully Arsenal will get the deals.

er for those who don’t know what is wccf , i World Club Champion Football (WCCF) is a Japanese collectible card game and arcade fantasy soccer game. The player assembles a team by collecting and trading specially marked cards, then managing their team and playing simulated matches on an arcade machine.

The Game consists of up to 16 player cards being used alongside the manager’s IC Card. The human player becomes the manager of the football(Soccer) team and between 100 to 150 games can be played per IC Card.

You can change the player’s formation, talk to the players in your office and train them up to special standards. Registering and using the player cards involves laying the cards down on a special matted table that senses the type of card and player.

Series

World Club Championship Football started back in 2002 and has carried the seasons 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2004-2005 with 2005-2006 being the most recent version. In total there are over 1000 cards to use.

The 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 versions of the game were based on the Italian Serie A league. The game was released in Japan for both seasons.

The 2004-2005 season contained European football clubs and was released in Japan, Italy, Great Britain and various other countries.

The 2005-2006 continues and expands the World Club Championship Football collection to include extra European clubs.
